Academic Counsellor

An academic counselor helps students at a college or university with their educational and career decisions.

• Advise on course selection: Help underclassmen choose courses and majors 
• Provide career advice: Help juniors and seniors with applying for jobs, internships, and fellowships, and with alumni networking and interview techniques 
• Help with planning: Guide students in building a career and planning for their futures 
• Communication: The ability to clearly convey ideas through verbal and written communication 
• Active listening: The ability to focus on what a speaker is saying and provide non-verbal cues to encourage them to share their thoughts
