Security Guard – Job DescriptionLocation: River Store, Vennala, Kochi

Department: Security / Facility Management

Reporting To: Security Supervisor / Store Manager

1. Purpose of the RoleTo ensure the safety and security of customers, employees, merchandise, and store property by maintaining vigilant surveillance, preventing theft, enforcing store policies, and responding promptly to incidents or emergencies.

• 2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Store Security & Loss PreventionPrevent shoplifting, theft, and suspicious activities inside the store.
• Maintain constant vigilance over customers and staff behavior.
• Monitor and report suspicious activity.
• Check bills and items at the exit when required.
• Assist store management in loss-prevention measures.
• Retail security guards play a major role in deterring theft and protecting store assets through surveillance and patrols.
• B. Access ControlMonitor and control entry and exit points of the store.
• Ensure only authorized staff enter restricted areas such as stockrooms.
• Conduct bag checks of staff as per company policy.
• Monitor delivery personnel and vendor entries.
• C. Patrol & MonitoringConduct regular patrols inside and around the store premises.
• Monitor parking areas and surroundings.
• Ensure emergency exits and fire equipment are unobstructed.
• Identify unsafe conditions such as spills, broken fixtures, or hazards.
• D. Customer Safety & AssistanceProvide assistance to customers when required.
• Maintain order during peak hours and promotional events.
• Assist in crowd control and queue management.
• Guide customers in case of emergency evacuation.

Retail security guards often interact with customers while maintaining safety and order within the premises.

• E. Incident HandlingRespond quickly to disturbances, theft attempts, or disputes.
• De-escalate conflicts politely and professionally.
• Coordinate with store management and police when necessary.
• Provide first response during fire, medical emergency, or accidents.

Security guards are trained to respond to emergencies and assist authorities when required.

• F. Reporting & DocumentationMaintain daily security logbook.
• Record incidents, suspicious activities, and visitor entries.
• Report any security breaches to the supervisor/store manager.
• Submit written incident reports when required.

Observation and reporting are considered among the most important duties of security personnel.

• 3. General DutiesBe in proper uniform with ID badge at all times.
• Maintain discipline, alertness, and professional behavior.
• Follow store security SOPs and emergency procedures.
• Ensure no weapons or dangerous items enter the store.
• 4. Skills & RequirementsGood observation and alertness
• Basic communication skills (Malayalam / English / Hindi preferred)
• Ability to handle difficult situations calmly
• Physical fitness and ability to stand for long hours
• Basic knowledge of security procedures
• 5. Working Conditions8–12 hour rotational shifts
• Standing duty for extended periods
• Work during weekends, holidays, and peak shopping hours
