Kindergarten Teacher

A preschool teacher fosters the early development of children (typically ages 2–4) by designing engaging, play-based curricula that teach foundational reading, writing, and math skills. They ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment while facilitating social-emotional growth, managing routines, and communicating progress to parents.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Instruction: Plan and implement age-appropriate activities, including storytelling, games, and art to foster cognitive and motor skills.

Child Development & Safety: Monitor, supervise, and ensure the safety of children at all times, including during meals, naptime, and play.

Classroom Management: Establish routines, set clear rules, and manage classroom behavior, facilitating social skill development like sharing and empathy.

Parent Communication: Maintain regular communication with parents regarding children’s behavior, progress, and development.

Assessment & Recording: Track individual child progress and maintain records.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma is often required, but many positions prefer or require an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field.

Certification: Valid state teaching certification or licensure (e.g., Child Development Associate - CDA credential).

Experience: Previous experience working with young children in a daycare or preschool setting.

Skills: Strong communication, patience, creativity, and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly.

Physical Demands

Preschool teachers must be able to lift children, sit on the floor, and actively move around the classroom or playground, often requiring high energy levels.
