Job Description

A Credit Control Accountant is responsible for safeguarding a company's revenue by managing the end-to-end debt collection process while maintaining accurate financial records. This role combines proactive payment follow-up with core accounting tasks to ensure a healthy cash flow. EAE Madrid +3

Core Responsibilities

  • Payment Follow-up & Collections:
  • Proactively chase overdue invoices via phone, email, and formal letters to minimize Day Sales Outstanding (DSO).
  • Negotiate and monitor repayment plans for customers facing financial difficulties.
  • Identify and resolve customer billing disputes or queries that may delay payment.

  • Credit Management:
  • Assess the creditworthiness of new and existing customers using financial reports and credit scoring tools.
  • Establish and regularly review credit limits and payment terms.
  • Monitor debtor aging reports to identify and alert management of high-risk accounts.
  • Accounting Functions:
  • Accurately record and allocate incoming payments against open invoices in the accounting system.
  • Perform regular reconciliations of customer ledgers and bank accounts.
  • Generate and issue customer statements, reminder notices, and credit/debit notes.

Required Skills

  • Accounting Proficiency: Solid understanding of general accounting principles, double-entry bookkeeping, and accounts receivable (AR) processes.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Software: Competency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills for data analysis.
  • Regulatory: Familiarity with relevant credit and collection laws, and in some regions, specific accounting standards like Ind AS.
  • Interpersonal Skills:

  • Negotiation: Ability to remain firm yet diplomatic to secure payments while maintaining positive customer relationships.

  • Degree: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
