Fire Safety Technician

Equipment Maintenance and Inspection

• Inspect, repair, and maintain all fire suppression and detection systems, including fire risers, sprinkler systems, fire pumps, hydrants, fire extinguishers, smoke/heat detectors, and fire alarm panels.
• Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment and systems, which may involve dismantling, cleaning, and recharging fire extinguishers or replacing worn/damaged parts.
• Operate and test newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify adequacy of repairs.
• Monitor and report on equipment performance and maintain stock/inventory of tools and spare parts. 
• Knowledge of Purchase of these Equipment: Having good vendor relations and through knowledge about workings of this industry will be a BIG PLUS

Compliance and Documentation

• Ensure strict adherence to all local, national (e.g., NFPA standards), and OSHA fire safety codes, regulations, and standards.
• Conduct regular inspections and safety audits of the plant premises to identify potential fire hazards and non-conformance issues.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records and documentation of all inspections, testing activities, maintenance performed, incidents, and training logs.
• Read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and system schematics to ensure proper installation and operation of systems.

Emergency Response and Training

• Respond promptly to fire alarms and other emergencies, and, if part of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), perform duties such as addressing medical emergencies, chemical spills, or fire incidents.
• Organize and conduct fire drills, safety inductions, and training programs for employees and contractors on fire safety procedures, equipment use, and emergency evacuation plans.
• Investigate all fire incidents, accidents, and near-miss events to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Education: A diploma or B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Fire & Safety/Mechanical, or a related technical field is often required.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) Fire Alarm Certification Level 1 or Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), are highly valued and sometimes mandatory.
• Knowledge: Sound knowledge of fire protection equipment and systems, industry standards, and regulatory codes (e.g., NFPA).
• Skills: Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, ability to use various hand/power/diagnostic tools, and excellent communication skills.
• Physical Ability: Must be physically capable of performing strenuous labor, lifting heavy objects, working in confined spaces or at heights, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and respirators when required.
