Caretaker

Job Description for Care Attendants (CA):

1. Responsible for all residents ADL’s- Activities of Daily Living, including but not limited to:

a. Assistance with meals, bringing or removing resident meal trays to/from their

room as needed

b. Giving a bath or shower

c. Helping resident with wearing and removing clothes, undergarments & shoes

d. Helping resident with grooming (shaving, nail care, hair care)

e. Toileting – taking resident to the bathroom, cleaning and changing diapers and

incontinence pads, cleaning residents if they have soiled themselves, soaking

soiled clothes, emptying catheter bag

f. Transferring resident into and out of bed, wheelchair, assistance with walking or

pushing wheelchair

g. Responsible for maintaining resident’s overall hygiene and appearance

h. Responsible for resident’s oral care (and denture care, if applicable)

i. Responsible for overall health and wellbeing of resident and reporting changes in

health to Facility Nurse/Facility Manager

2. Engaging residents in activities and accompanying them for activities like walks, assist-

ing in physical therapy, hospital visits, outings, celebrations etc.

3. Maintaining residents rooms/washrooms, arranging shelves, organizing and cleaning

resident’s closets and bedside table, dusting, changing linen, ironing resident clothes if

required, removing trash from resident room

4. Completing all designated paperwork and giving a proper handover when shift changes.

5. In case of situations when housekeeping is not available then the CA is responsible for

maintaining hygiene levels of the allocated resident area in case it is dirty.

6. Provide coverage as required when other staff is on leave.

7. All other duties as assigned.
