Laboratory Technician

Job Summary

A Lab Technician is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and processing biological samples to support accurate diagnosis and treatment. The role requires precision, hygiene, confidentiality, and the ability to work with medical equipment and laboratory systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect blood, urine, stool, sputum, and other specimens following safety protocols
• Prepare samples for testing and analysis
• Perform routine and specialized lab tests (hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, serology, etc.)
• Operate laboratory equipment such as analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, and pipettes
• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of samples
• Maintain cleanliness, sterilization, and infection-control standards
• Record and verify test results accurately in registers or software systems
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments
• Report abnormal findings to the Pathologist or Medical Officer
• Follow NABL / ISO / hospital laboratory guidelines
• Manage inventory of reagents, kits, and consumables
• Assist in internal and external quality control procedures

Educational Qualification

• DMLT / BMLT / MLT / B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology
• Registration with State / National Lab Council (if applicable)

Work Environment

• Hospitals, Diagnostic Labs, Research Centers
• Standing for long hours, handling samples
• Working in shifts, including nights or emergencies
