Roles & responsibilities

We are recruiting an India/UK qualified lawyer who can be effective member of the KGS OGC team, that complements the activities of the UK Data Privacy Office that sits within UK Office of the General Counsel of KPMG LLP. The role is focused on ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and to support the UK Data Privacy Office with matters of Data Protection compliance.

KPMG LLP is the UK member of the international KPMG network of professional services firms and provides audit, tax and advisory services to a wide variety of clients.  The UK Office of General Counsel (OGC) is a very busy department providing support on engagement commercial issues across the whole firm.  It plays a key role in the drafting and negotiation of engagement letters, technology contracts and other agreements related to the firm’s services and managing the firm’s risk. The Data Privacy Office sits within OGC and is responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection legislation such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA2018) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). The Data Privacy Office reports to the UK Data Protection Officer (DPO) and is supported by a Data Protection Lawyer within OGC Corporate.  The new recruit will complement the activities of the members of the onshore team by:

The new recruit will complement the activities of the members of the onshore team by:

•Assisting with Data Subject Access Requests ocollation of documents odetermine relevance of information with assistance from UK Data Privacy Office oredaction •Assisting with Data Privacy Impact Assessments ounderstanding of the new processes and applications oassessment of privacy impact •Managing the Data Privacy Risk register omonthly review of risks and follow-up with risk owners for updates oprompt escalation of critical risks to the DP manager or the DPO •Mailbox Management for UK Data Privacy Office oresponding to queries and allocation of tasks otracking completion

Educational qualifications

•LLB or LLM

Work experience

•India or UK qualified lawyer with 1-2 years of post qualification experience

Mandatory  technical & functional skills

•Experience and knowledge of Data Protection Laws/GDPR is mandatory and preferable to have Data Protection compliance experience •analytical abilities •ability to articulate points in writing and orally, clearly and succinctly •capabilities in MS Office, share point and use of websites •willingness to acquire knowledge of OGC’s practices and processes •ability to be calm under pressure •ability to handle difficult or pressurized situations or people •commercial judgement and the ability to balance conflicting demands •initiative, self-confidence and authority •understanding of the risks faced by providers of professional services •awareness of cultural issues affecting regulated professional services firms
