Director, Primary Insights Solutions

About the role:

Gartner is currently seeking a Director in the Primary Research Solutions (PRS) team, within the Customer and Market Intelligence (CMI) group. This is an individual contributor role focused on B2B primary research and insights generation. The PRS team develops proprietary quantitative and qualitative data and insights to offer original, actionable intelligence on key business challenges and gaps in insights facing C-Level executives across industries and business functions.

The selected candidate will be responsible for leading primary research and survey development projects in collaboration with key Gartner stakeholders to create powerful and relevant research insights for Gartner stakeholders and clients. The role provides excellent exposure to a full range of topics related to IT and business roles (CIO, Tech CEO, Cybersecurity, HR, Finance, Supply Chain, etc.), as well as the opportunity to apply statistical concepts or AI-led approaches in the research process.

What you’ll do:

  • This position is for experienced researchers interested in leading primary B2B research, particularly surveys and executive interviews, to create impactful new insights for Gartner stakeholders and clients

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead primary research initiatives across research methods (surveys, interviews) to inform content development and business decisions, including scoping, designing, conducting, observing, analyzing and presenting the results

  • Ability to design and communicate recommended research approaches to validate research hypotheses and build actionable insights for Gartner clients

  • Specifically, lead and collaborate on the design, field and analysis of primary quantitative projects, including sampling methodologies and advanced quantitative analyses (regressions, factor analysis, MaxDiff, etc.)  

  • Build research study narratives complemented by data-driven insights

  • Effectively communicate and present analytical insights and narratives to internal stakeholders

  • Lead and promote best practice in design, execution, process & delivery of research products and projects

  • The role also includes opportunities to partner with senior Product leaders at Gartner to inform internal strategy

What you’ll need:

Professional Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or with related coursework (Statistics, business, marketing, global affairs, psychology, behavioral science, data and analytics, communications, etc.); Master’s degree a plus

  • 10+ years of experience in research, insights, and analytics roles focused on primary research methods; Management experience a plus

Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated research knowledge across research methods, including surveys and executive interviews

  • Demonstrated expertise in leading primary research quantitative studies from design to final stakeholder presentations

  • Experience in sampling methodologies, survey questionnaire design, and data management

  • Strong foundational knowledge and extensive practical experience in running Statistical techniques such as regressions, factor analysis, clustering, etc

  • Mastery in at least one Statistical software package (R, Python, SPSS, etc.)

  • Practical understanding of survey platforms and capabilities (Qualtrics, Confirmit, Decipher, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple high-complexity and data-intensive projects simultaneously

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills, as you will be leading discussions with senior Gartner stakeholders

  • Creative and independent thinking with superior problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to collaborate with globally distributed team members from diverse backgrounds
