Deputy General Manager - Mechanical Projects

Responsibilities

1) Project Planning & Controls

  • Develop and own mechanical project execution plan, WBS, scope, budgets, and Level-3 schedules.
  • Drive critical path for BTG/BOP erection; maintain realistic look-ahead plans and mitigation actions.
  • Chair weekly progress reviews; ensure robust progress measurement, earned value tracking, dashboards, and change control.

2) Engineering Coordination

  • Lead interface management with basic & detailed engineering, reviewing GA drawings, P&IDs, Isometrics, layout, stress analysis reports, and vendor documents.
  • Validate datasheets, MTOs, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), QAP/ITP, and commissioning procedures.

3) Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Finalize technical bid evaluations (TBE); support sourcing and expedite long lead items (pressure parts, TG, BFPs, valves, FGD equipment, fans, pumps, heat exchangers).
  • Monitor vendor manufacturing, shop inspections, packing, and logistics planning; resolve NCRs/TQNs promptly.

4) Site Construction, Erection & Commissioning

  • Lead mechanical erection: boiler pressure parts, ducting, piping, TG deck & auxiliaries, CW, CHP/AHP.
  • Ensure fit-up, alignment, welding quality, NDT, hydrostatic/pneumatic tests, flushing, box-up & reinstatement.
  • Oversee pre-commissioning/commissioning: boiler light-up, rolling, synchronization, full-load trials, PG tests, and reliability run.

5) Quality Assurance / Quality Control

  • Enforce ITP/QAP, welding quality, consumables control, NDT/NDE, PMI, hardness, PWHT, calibration.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA), corrective & preventive actions for defects and punch lists.
  • Close NCRs, snag lists, and punch A/B systematically before handover.

6) HSE & Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Factories Act, Boiler Regulations (IBR), lifting plans, hot work permits, LOTO and HIRA/JSA.
  • Coordinate with CEA, CEA inspections, MoEF&CC, SPCB, boiler inspectorates for statutory clearances and consent-to-operate related demands.

7) Contract & Commercial

  • Support contract administration: variation orders, claims (time & cost), extensions, LD management, and back-to-back terms with subcontractors.
  • Validate measurements, RA bills, and final acceptance documents.

8) Stakeholder & Governance

  • Be the single point of contact for mechanical scope with Owner/Consultant, OEMs, EPC, and cross-functional teams (Civil, Electrical, C&I).
  • Prepare crisp MIS, risk registers, issue logs, and management presentations; escalate roadblocks proactively.
