Trademark Specialist Cum PIL Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and highly capable Trademark Specialist & PIL Assistant Advocate to join our in-house legal team. Our organization manages a vast portfolio encompassing dozens of corporate entities and several educational trusts, while also actively engaging in high-profile legal activism.

The ideal candidate is a dual-threat legal professional: possessing meticulous attention to detail for managing a massive intellectual property portfolio, alongside the rigorous research and drafting skills required to pursue impactful Public Interest Litigations (PILs) concerning environmental, constitutional, and societal issues at the High Court and Supreme Court levels.

Key Responsibilities:

Trademark & Intellectual Property Management

·      Manage the end-to-end trademark registration lifecycle for a large group of companies, educational institutions, and trusts.

·      Conduct comprehensive trademark searches, file applications, and track their status.

·      Draft and file rigorous replies to examination reports and handle trademark opposition proceedings or hearings.

·      Maintain a centralized IP docketing system to monitor deadlines, ensuring timely renewals and compliance across all entities.

·      Advise on brand protection strategies and monitor for potential trademark infringements.

Public Interest Litigation (PIL) & Legal Activism

·      Conduct in-depth legal, historical, and factual research to support high-impact PILs, particularly those involving environmental conservation and constitutional matters.

·      Draft comprehensive legal notices, PIL petitions, affidavits, writ petitions, and memorandums for submission to constitutional courts and high-ranking government offices.

·      Assist in formulating legal strategies and coordinating with co-petitioners or external spiritual/social leaders involved in the matters.

·      Brief and liaise with Senior Advocates representing the organization in the Supreme Court or respective High Courts.

·      Track case progress, manage case files, and ensure all procedural compliances are met perfectly.

Qualifications & Requirements:

·      Education: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Master of Laws (LLM) from a recognized university. Must be registered with the State Bar Council/ Gauhati High Court.

·      Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of active experience, specifically handling Trademark Registry matters and drafting writ petitions/PILs.

·      IP Expertise: Deep understanding of the Trade Marks Act, 1999, and hands-on experience navigating the IP India portal.

·      Litigation Skills: Exceptional legal drafting and research skills, with a strong grasp of constitutional law, environmental law, and Supreme Court/High Court rules.

·      Communication: Excellent command of written and spoken English. The ability to draft clear, persuasive, and legally sound documents is non-negotiable.

·      Attributes: High ethical standards, passion for social/legal activism, and the organizational skills to juggle a high-volume corporate portfolio alongside complex litigation.
