English Teacher

Position: IGCSE English Teacher

Department: Academics

Reports To: Principal / Academic Coordinator

1. Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality English instruction aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, ensuring students develop strong language, literature, and communication skills while meeting international academic standards.

2. Key Roles & Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English lessons based on the Cambridge IGCSE syllabus.

Teach English as a First/Second Language and/or English Literature as per school requirement.

Use effective teaching strategies, differentiated instruction, and formative assessments to meet diverse learner needs.

Prepare students for internal assessments, board exams, and external competitions.

Develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical-thinking skills.

Classroom Management

Maintain a disciplined, positive, and conducive classroom environment.

Monitor student behaviour and promote good values, responsibility, and respect.

Ensure timely completion of classwork, homework, and assignments.

Assessment & Evaluation

Conduct regular assessments, tests, and practice papers as per IGCSE standards.

Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.

Maintain accurate records of student performance and examination readiness.

Curriculum Planning & Documentation

Prepare lesson plans, yearly curriculum plans, and schemes of work.

Contribute to curriculum development and resource planning.

Ensure all teaching materials and activities align with Cambridge guidelines.

Communication & Collaboration

Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Attend parent-teacher meetings, staff meetings, and professional development sessions.

Collaborate with the English department to share best practices and maintain consistency in teaching.

Other Responsibilities

Participate in school events, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.

Support students requiring additional academic help.

Uphold school policies, discipline procedures, and safeguarding guidelines.

Perform any other duties assigned by the management.

3. Qualification & Skills Required

Educational Qualification

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English / Literature / Education.

B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification (preferred).

Cambridge IGCSE training or experience (added advantage).

Skills & Competencies

Strong command of English language and grammar.

Ability to teach IGCSE curriculum effectively.

Excellent communication and classroom management skills.

Creative, student-centric, and activity-based teaching approach.

Ability to prepare students for board examinations.

Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
