Job Description

Job Summary

The General Insurance Underwriter will be responsible for end-to-end underwriting support for SME and

Corporate clients. This role involves assessing client risk profiles, preparing proposals, sourcing and

analyzing quotes from insurers, negotiating policy terms and premiums, and ensuring seamless policy

issuance and servicing throughout the policy lifecycle. The position requires strong coordination with

insurers, internal sales teams, and clients while maintaining high ethical standards and service quality.


Key Responsibilities

Underwriting & Risk Assessment

 Scrutinize and analyze existing insurance policies to identify coverage gaps and improvement

opportunities.

 Assess client insurance requirements by understanding their business operations, assets,

liabilities, and risk exposures.

 Recommend suitable insurance solutions across Property, Liability, Motor, Marine, Engineering,

and other General Insurance lines.

 Research appropriate insurance products and policy wordings based on client needs.

Quoting & Placement

 Call for quotes from multiple insurance companies for competitive pricing and optimal coverage.

 Verify, scrutinize, and analyze quotes received from insurers.

 Prepare comparison sheets and underwriting recommendations for clients.

 Negotiate policy terms, conditions, and premium rates with insurers.

 Follow up with clients for approvals and premium payments.

Policy Issuance & Documentation


 Coordinate issuance of policies with insurers after client confirmation.

 Scrutinize policy documents for accuracy and compliance with negotiated terms.

 Dispatch final policy documents to clients along with endorsements and certificates.

 Maintain proper records of all documents, acknowledgments, and correspondence.

Client Servicing & Relationship Management

 Communicate with clients to understand their evolving insurance needs and ensure customer

satisfaction.

 Handle mid-term endorsements such as additions, deletions, and corrections during the policy

year.

 Service clients for all related insurance requirements throughout the policy period.

 Maintain ethical and professional relationships with corporate clients and key stakeholders.

 Provide periodic reports to management on portfolio performance, renewals, and underwriting

metrics.

Coordination & Operations

 Liaise between insurance carriers, internal sales teams, and clients to resolve underwriting and

servicing issues.

 Support enrollment and eligibility processes for group insurance (where applicable).

 Work on ad hoc underwriting and operational requests as required.


Skills & Competencies

 Strong understanding of General Insurance products and underwriting principles

 Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills

 Client relationship management and stakeholder coordination

 Attention to detail in policy scrutiny and documentation

 Strong verbal and written communication skills

 Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

 Ability to work independently and manage multiple accounts


 High ethical standards and customer-centric approach


Qualifications & Experience

 Graduate degree in any discipline (MBA preferred)

 Professional certification such as FIII from Insurance Institute of India (preferred)

 12–15 years of experience in Insurance Broking or General Insurance underwriting

 Prior experience handling SME and Corporate insurance portfolios

 Exposure to multiple lines of General Insurance (Property, Liability, Marine, Motor, Engineering,

etc.)


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

 Turnaround time for quote processing and policy issuance

 Accuracy of underwriting recommendations and policy documents

 Client satisfaction and retention rates

 Premium placement and renewal success ratios

 Quality of insurer negotiations and coverage optimization Candidates worked with Prudent, Visista, Alliance, Novo, India Insure, Marsh India, Aon , Provident will be preffered.
