Assistant Manager - Trade & Customs
Roles and Responsibilities
Designation- Assistant Manager
Reporting to- Manager/Associate Director
Role type- Individual contributor/Technical
Employment type- Full-time
As we scale and build out the center, we are looking for an Assistant Manager to assist with managing the team, along with assigning work and interacting with clients on requirements of Global Trade and Customs Managed Services solution. The objective of this capability is to build a global managed services center for product classification, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and Post Entry Review (PER) solutions that drives technology enabled standard processes that delivers consistent, high quality and continuously improving processes for efficiency and effectiveness of our solutions bringing together the best KPMG Trade and Customs has to offer at a global scale with local expertise. As an Assistant Manager in this team, your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Implement engagements from start to finish (planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects) assigned to the team
- Manage engagement workflow, engagement team resources, and engagement billing
- Responsible for quality of work
- Provide leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of the team
- Continuous improvement of team’s performance through critical analysis of feedback received
- Maintain and develop strong client relationships
- Operations reporting and performance dashboards for key stakeholders and leadership
Technical Competencies:
- Develop and maintain relationships with strategic stakeholders, manage client interactions and business partnerships to implement trade compliance operations strategy for the organization.
- Use a thorough understanding of trade compliance laws, regulations, practices and procedures to supervise, approve and make decisions that affect the trade compliance operation.
- Ensure that global trade compliance operations procedures are supported by proper due diligence demonstrating reasonable care standards.
- Lead and develop a team, coach and make decisions related to HTS, FTA and Post entry review process.
- Conduct audits to ensure adherence to standards.
Core Competencies:
- Accountable for developing and maintaining appropriate process control metrics.
- Own and Drive Projects and initiatives to improve efficiency, performance and productivity within the team.
- Achieve and maintain a high level of proficiency within team & drive and improve people practices for the entire vertical.
- Maintain continuous, in-depth knowledge of Trade compliance
- Excellent interpersonal skills: Team player with ability to build a network of top talents across the vertical via good influencing skills.
SME and Guidance:
- Research and analyze a wide range of GTC issues and client/customs escalations/rejections
- Train and guide the team with relevant process and technical knowledge
- Consistently develop technology skills, technical skill and soft skills through firm- provided trainings
- Process and review data related to Trade & Customs operations
- Complex review and audit transactional documents related to customs entries
- Support the engagement Manager in pursuits, proposals and engagement reporting
Qualifications:
- Masters/Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science/Commerce from accredited college or university.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suit Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- With at least 5 years of relevant experience in trade compliance
- Proven experience in Trade and Customs domain, preferably in trade management and harmonized tariff schedule (HTS) classifications
