Job Description

A Business Development Manager (BDM) in tours and travels is responsible for bringing in new business, building partnerships, and increasing revenue by promoting travel products and packages to the right clients and channels.

Core business development dutiesIdentify and pursue new business opportunities such as corporate clients, schools/colleges, societies, travel agents, and online partners.

Generate leads through cold calls, meetings, events, travel trade shows, and digital channels.

Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts and travel trade partners to secure repeat and high‑volume bookings.

Sales and revenue responsibilitiesDevelop and achieve monthly/quarterly sales and revenue targets for packages, tickets, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions), and other services.

Create and present proposals/quotations for group tours, corporate travel, and customized itineraries, and negotiate rates and terms with clients.

Work with suppliers (hotels, transport, DMCs, airlines) to get competitive prices and better margins for the agency.

Strategy, planning, and marketingConduct market research to understand travel trends, competitor offerings, seasonal demand, and new segments (honeymoon, religious tours, corporate offsites, etc.).

Develop and execute business development plans: target segments, territories, campaigns, and partnerships to grow market share.

Coordinate with marketing to design promotions, digital campaigns, brochures, and trade marketing material for agents and corporate clients.

Relationship management and trainingRegularly visit and engage with existing trade partners/agents to train them on products, new packages, and booking tools, and to increase their sales.

Organize familiarization (FAM) trips, webinars, or presentations to educate partners and large clients about destinations and products.

Handle escalated client issues related to service quality, booking errors, or tour execution, ensuring client satisfaction and retention.

Reporting and coordinationMaintain an updated pipeline of leads, proposals, and closures in CRM or tracking sheets, and prepare regular MIS and performance reports.

Track KPIs like leads generated, conversion rate, revenue by segment, and performance of key partners, and suggest corrective actions.

Coordinate closely with operations and ticketing teams to ensure smooth execution of confirmed tours and corporate travel plans.
