Engineer

Job Title: Safety Officer

Department: Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Reports To: HSE Manager / Site Head / Compliance Manager

Job Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment. The role focuses on preventing accidents, injuries, and occupational hazards by promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with statutory safety regulations (Factories Act, OSHA guidelines, local labor laws, etc.)
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments
  • Identify hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions

Training & Awareness

  • Conduct safety induction and refresher training for employees and contractors
  • Organize mock drills (fire, emergency evacuation, first aid)
  • Promote safety awareness through toolbox talks and safety campaigns

Incident Management

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
  • Prepare incident reports and root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Coordinate with management to implement corrective actions

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain safety records, permits, checklists, and registers
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly safety reports
  • Maintain MSDS, PPE records, and statutory documentation

PPE & Site Safety

  • Ensure availability and proper use of PPE
  • Monitor work permits: hot work, confined space, working at height
  • Ensure safe operation of equipment and machinery

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, and contractors
  • Liaise with government inspectors and auditors when required
  • Support management during internal and external audits

Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Diploma / Degree in Safety, Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, or Engineering
  • Certification such as ADIS, NEBOSH, IOSH (preferred)

Experience

  • 2–6 years of experience as a Safety Officer (industry-specific as required)
  • Experience handling audits and statutory compliance is an advantage

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices
  • Good communication and training skills
  • Incident investigation and reporting
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
