Job Description
Role OverviewThe Group Manager – Dangerous Cargo is responsible for leading, managing, and overseeing all operations related to Dangerous Goods Declaration handling including storage, transportation, and compliance of dangerous goods. This role ensures full adherence to international and local regulations, promotes a strong safety culture, and drives operational excellence across multiple locations.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee end-to-end operations for dangerous cargo, ensuring full compliance with IMDG, IATA, ADR, and other regulatory standards.Lead and manage teams responsible for DG documentation, packaging, labeling, and safe handling.Implement and monitor safety protocols, risk assessments, and emergency response procedures.Coordinate with regulatory authorities, Partner shipping lines, and internal departments.Ensure proper training, certification, and competency development for DG staff.Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and safety.Review and approve DG documentation, incident reports, and compliance audits.Manage customer relationships and address queries related to dangerous goods shipments.Analyze operational performance metrics and prepare periodic reports for senior leadership.Lead incident investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions where necessary.Candidate should haveStrong leadership, excellent written and verbal communication in English, ability to handle stressful situations in Dangerous Goods incident handling and decision-making skills. Shoulddemonstrated ability to manage compliance, risk, and operational excellence. Good Stakeholder & people management. Should possess excellent Problem-solving & analytical skills
Qualifications
The candidate will need to know:The IMDG Code, ideally be 49 CFR certifiedHave a Masters or at least a Bachelor's degree in a field such as Chemistry or environmental scienceOR at least 4+ years of direct experience handling and approving hazardous cargo.
