Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the highest standard of cleanliness, hygiene, guest room readiness and public area presentation throughout the hotel. This includes managing the housekeeping team, setting and monitoring wellness standards, collaborating with other departments (front office, maintenance, F&B) and ensuring guest satisfaction through cleanliness and comfort.


Key Responsibilities

1. Team Management & Training

 Recruit, train, and supervise housekeeping team members (room attendants, public area attendants, laundry staff).

 Conduct regular training on cleaning procedures, guest room standards, hygiene, safety and use of cleaning equipment.

 Develop work schedules, shift rosters, leave planning to ensure coverage at all times.

 Conduct performance appraisals, provide feedback and coaching to team members.

2. Guest Room & Public Area Cleanliness

 Oversee the cleaning and preparation of guest rooms (including check-in ready, check-out processing, mid-stay service).

 Monitor public areas (lobby, corridors, banquet halls, restaurant, restrooms) to meet the hotel’s brand standard for cleanliness and appearance.

 Ensure timely linen and amenities replenishment, minibar/restock (if applicable), and proper housekeeping supplies.

 Coordinate with laundry service to ensure timely pick-up/return of linens, uniforms and other laundry items

3. Quality Assurance & Standards

 Develop and maintain housekeeping standards manual specific to the hotel (guest room, bathroom, public area, storage rooms).

 Conduct regular inspections (daily/weekly) of rooms and public areas and identify any corrective actions.

 Report recurring issues (e.g., maintenance defects, deep‐cleaning schedules) to Maintenance & Engineering.

 Monitor guest feedback (via front office, reviews) related to cleanliness and act on improvement areas.

4. Inventory & Budget Control

 Manage housekeeping budgets (cleaning supplies, laundry, uniforms).

 Maintain inventory of cleaning products, chemicals, equipment and linen; ensure adequate stock levels and optimum usage.

 Liaise with purchasing/procurement for orders, cost‐control and quality of supplies.

 Ensure safe and proper usage/storage of cleaning chemicals in compliance with safety and environmental standards.

5. Health, Safety & Hygiene Compliance

 Ensure housekeeping operations comply with health, safety and hygiene regulations (including local laws, fire safety, chemical handling).

 Ensure staff use personal protective equipment (PPE) where required and cleaning equipment are maintained and safe to use.

 Implement deep-cleaning schedules (e.g., carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, tile/grout cleaning) and preventive maintenance for housekeeping equipment.

6. Collaboration with Other Departments

 Work closely with Front Office (for room status updates), Maintenance (for repair work), F&B (for banquet cleaning and turnover), and Security (for lost & found, access to restricted areas).

 Assist in the setup and cleanup for special events/banquets in the hotel’s banquet halls.

 Ensure smooth coordination when hotel occupancy is high, large events are hosted, or during deep-cleaning cycles.

7. Reporting & Administration

 Prepare and submit regular reports: occupancy vs cleaning tasks, room status, staff productivity, supply consumption, maintenance issues, guest feedback.

 Maintain housekeeping records: linen usage, operational checklists, incident logs, training logs.

 Forecast staffing needs and plan for peak/off-peak periods.
