Job Title: Ghat Polish Quality Controller (QC)Department: Production / Quality Control

Reporting To: Production Manager / QC Head

Location: Jewellery Manufacturing Unit

Job PurposeTo ensure that all jewellery pieces coming out of the ghat polish process meet the company’s quality standards in terms of finish, shine, symmetry, weight accuracy, and damage control, before moving to final processes or dispatch.

• Key Responsibilities1. Ghat Polish Quality InspectionInspect jewellery pieces post-ghat polish for:
• 
  
• Surface smoothness
• Uniform shine and brightness
• Absence of scratches, pinholes, waves, or polishing marks
• Ensure no over-polishing or metal loss beyond tolerance limits
• 2. Defect Identification & SegregationIdentify and segregate defects such as:
• 
  
• Dull finish
• Uneven polish
• Thin areas / excessive metal loss
• Shape distortion
• Clearly mark pieces for re-polish, repair, or rejection
• 3. Weight & Structural ChecksVerify pre-polish vs post-polish weight tolerance
• Ensure joints, edges, prongs, and links are intact and not weakened during polishing
• 4. Process Control & FeedbackProvide immediate feedback to ghat polish karigars regarding:
• 
  
• Pressure issues
• Buff usage
• Time overrun
• Help maintain consistent quality across batches and designs
• 5. Batch-wise Quality ControlCheck jewellery batch-wise / karigar-wise
• Ensure uniform finish within the same design and lot
• 6. Documentation & ReportingMaintain basic QC records such as:
• 
  
• Karigar-wise rejection / rework data
• Common defect trends
• Report recurring issues to Production / QC Head
• 7. Compliance & Factory DisciplineFollow factory SOPs, safety standards, and handling procedures
• Ensure jewellery is handled carefully to avoid post-polish damage
• Required Skills & CompetenciesStrong eye for finish, shine, and detailing
• Thorough understanding of ghat polish techniques
• Ability to differentiate between acceptable polish and defects
• Basic knowledge of gold / silver behaviour during polishing
• Attention to detail and consistency
• Clear communication with karigars and supervisors
• Experience & QualificationsMinimum 3–7 years experience in jewellery polishing or polishing QC
• Hands-on experience with gold jewellery ghat polish preferred
• Prior experience as polisher / senior polisher is an advantage
• No formal education requirement; skill-based role
• Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Reduction in re-polish and rejection rates
• Consistency of polish quality across batches
• Weight loss within defined tolerance limits
• Timely identification of defects before next process
• Work EnvironmentFactory floor-based role
• Requires standing for long hours and close visual inspection
• Works closely with polishing karigars and production team
• Authority & AccountabilityAuthority to reject or send back pieces for re-polish
• Accountable for quality approval before final finishing / next stage
