Steward

A senior steward is responsible for supervising and ensuring the cleanliness, organization, and efficiency of a hospitality environment like a kitchen or dining area. Key responsibilities include leading a team of stewards, maintaining health and safety standards, managing inventory, training junior staff, and coordinating with other departments like culinary and housekeeping. 

Leadership and team management

• Supervise and lead the stewarding team, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to company standards.
• Provide training and mentoring to junior stewards.
• Evaluate the performance of stewards.
• Coordinate with the culinary and service staff to ensure seamless operations. 

Operational and maintenance duties

• Implement and maintain cleaning schedules and procedures for all kitchen and dining areas. 
• Ensure all equipment, utensils, and facilities are clean and properly maintained. 
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. 
• Oversee the stocking and maintenance of cleaning supplies and equipment. 
• Manage inventory and place orders for necessary supplies. 

Safety and sanitation

• Uphold and enforce all health and safety standards.
• Ensure all food and beverage handling areas are hygienic.
• Have knowledge of chemicals and hazardous supplies. 

Guest and staff support

• Assist with guest inquiries or concerns related to cleanliness and service. 
• Help with basic food preparation and plating when needed. 
• Coordinate with other staff, such as housekeepers, to ensure all needs are met, like the transport of linen.
