Student Counsellor

A student counsellor supports students’ academic, personal, and career development while helping them handle emotional and social challenges within an educational setting . The role combines one‑to‑one guidance, documentation/reporting, and coordination with parents, teachers, and external support services .

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group counselling for academic, emotional, behavioural, and social issues, using active listening and a non‑judgemental approach .

• Help students set achievable academic and career goals, create action plans, and monitor progress over time .

• Assist with career guidance, including aptitude exploration, course/stream selection, and support for college admissions and entrance tests .

• Mediate conflicts between students, and between students, teachers, and parents to maintain a healthy learning environment .

• Identify at‑risk students, provide early interventions, and refer serious mental‑health or welfare concerns to appropriate external professionals or authorities .

• Conduct workshops or awareness sessions on topics like stress management, study skills, career options, and emotional well‑being .

• Maintain accurate, confidential counselling records and prepare brief reports or updates for school/college management when necessary .
