Job Description
- Key Roles & Responsibilities 1. Fabric Planning & Coordination Plan fabric requirements as per production schedule, order quantity, and style-wise consumption
- Coordinate with merchandising, sourcing, and planning teams for timely fabric availability
- Ensure correct fabric type, GSM, width, color, and composition as per buyer specifications
- 2. Fabric Receiving & Inspection Supervise fabric receiving from suppliers and mills
- Ensure fabric inspection (4-point system / 10-point system) is conducted properly
- Identify defects like shade variation, weaving defects, holes, oil marks, bowing/skewing
- Approve or reject fabric lots as per AQL standards
- 3. Fabric Storage & Inventory ControlMaintain proper fabric storage conditions (humidity, stacking, labeling)
- Ensure shade-wise, lot-wise, and PO-wise segregation
- Monitor fabric stock, aging, and slow-moving inventory
- Control fabric wastage and minimize dead stock
- 4. Fabric Issue & Production SupportIssue fabric to cutting department as per approved lay plan and marker
- Ensure correct shade grouping and roll selection to avoid shade issues in garments
- Support cutting and production teams in case of fabric-related problems
- Ensure FIFO method is followed for fabric issue
- 5. Fabric Testing & Quality ComplianceCoordinate with internal lab or external testing agencies
- Ensure compliance with buyer requirements (shrinkage, color fastness, GSM, skew)
- Monitor fabric relaxation and shrinkage control process before cutting
- Maintain all fabric test reports and approvals
- 6. Cost Control & Fabric Utilization Monitor fabric consumption vs. standard consumption
- Control excess fabric issuance and reduce re-cutting
- Work with IE and cutting teams to improve fabric utilization %
- Report fabric loss, rejection, and shortages with root cause analysis
- 7. Team Management & Training Lead and supervise fabric store staff, inspectors, and helpers
- Allocate duties and ensure discipline and productivity
- Train team on fabric handling, inspection methods, and quality standards
- 8. Documentation & ReportingMaintain fabric records such as:
- GRN (Goods Receipt Note)
- Fabric inspection reports
- Issue challans
- Stock registers (physical & ERP)
- Prepare daily / weekly fabric status reports for management
- Support audits (buyer, internal, compliance)
- 9. Buyer & Audit HandlingCoordinate during buyer visits and fabric audits
- Explain fabric inspection process, storage system, and traceability
- Ensure compliance with buyer SOPs and quality manuals
- 10. Compliance & SafetyEnsure compliance with factory safety, fire norms, and 5S standards
- Maintain clean and organized fabric store area
- Follow environmental and sustainability guidelines if applicable
- Key Skills RequiredStrong knowledge of woven / knitted fabrics
- Fabric inspection standards & testing knowledge
- ERP / Excel handling for stock control
- Problem-solving & coordination skills
- Leadership & communication skills
