JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition: Secondary Dental Assistant

Clinic: Dent’O’Play Dental Clinic

Reporting to: Primary Dental Assistant / Dr. Ritesh Kundu / Dr. Madhumanti Sengupta

Job Purpose: The Secondary Dental Assistant supports the dental team by maintaining sterilization protocols, preparing treatment areas, assisting in patient management, and ensuring smooth clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities1.

Clinic Preparation (Opening Duties)The assistant must ensure the clinic is ready before the first patient arrives.

Tasks include:

• Cleaning dental chairs and surrounding surfaces

• Arranging instruments for scheduled procedures

• Checking sterilized instrument packs

• Filling water bottles and suction systems

• Switching on AC, lights, compressor, and equipment

• Preparing disposables (gloves, masks, suction tips)

2. Sterilization and Infection Control: Important responsibility.

Responsibilities include:

• Washing instruments after every procedure

• Operating ultrasonic cleaner

• Packing instruments in sterilization pouches

• Running autoclave cycles

• Maintaining sterilization logbook

• Proper disposal of biomedical waste

• Keeping trays and instruments organized

3. Chairside Support (When Needed)

•Passing instruments to primary assistant or doctor

• Preparing impression materials

• Mixing dental cement

• Preparing suction and saliva ejectors

• Preparing anesthesia tray

4. Patient Handling

•Calling patients from waiting area

• Escorting patients to treatment room

• Providing bib and napkin

• Giving post-treatment instructions when asked

• Helping nervous patients feel comfortable

5. Clinic Cleanliness• Cleaning dental chair after each patient

• Disinfecting surfaces

• Maintaining washroom hygiene

• Cleaning spittoon

6. Inventory Support

•Checking stock of

Gloves

Masks

Cotton

Gauze

Suction tips

Sterilization pouches

• Inform doctor before stock finishes

7. Discipline and Behaviour

The assistant must:

• Be punctual

• Maintain polite behaviour with patients

• Maintain confidentiality of patient records

• Never argue with patients

Attendance and Work Expectations Working hours: 9 AM – Clinic closing

The assistant must follow:

• Leave policy

• Late arrival policy

• Performance points system

• Overtime / compensatory off policy

Required Skills

• Basic understanding of hygiene

• Ability to learn dental procedures quickly

• Discipline and punctuality

• Calm behaviour with patients

• Ability to work in a team

Educational Qualification

Preferred:

• Dental assistant training course or previous training of any dental clinic assistant

Minimum:

• Higher secondary pass with willingness to learn
