Junior AutoCAD Engineer

A. GIS Layer Creation & Management

▸   Create, compile, and maintain detailed GIS layers for the railway project including alignment corridors, track geometry, utility crossings, bridges, and drainage structures.

▸   Organize spatial data using Autodesk Map 3D, ensuring accurate layer naming conventions, coordinate systems, and data integrity across all deliverables.

▸   Import and process geospatial data from various sources (survey data, satellite imagery, LiDAR point clouds) and integrate them into project drawings.

▸   Develop and maintain a structured layer management system in compliance with project BIM and CAD standards.

B. Civil 3D Drafting & Design Support

▸   Prepare detailed Civil 3D models including horizontal and vertical alignments, surfaces, profiles, cross-sections, and corridors for railway track design.

▸   Generate quantity take-offs, earthwork calculations, and plan-profile sheets using Civil 3D tools.

▸   Update and revise drawings based on design changes, site surveys, and engineer's instructions in a timely manner.

▸   Assist senior engineers in preparing drawing packages for submissions, approvals, and construction purposes.

C. Spatial Data & GIS Analysis

▸   Perform spatial analysis, coordinate transformations, and data validation within Autodesk Map 3D environment.

▸   Prepare GIS maps and thematic layers for planning reports, feasibility studies, and stakeholder presentations.

▸   Support data migration and conversion between GIS formats (SHP, DWG, GeoJSON, KML, etc.).

▸   Maintain georeferencing accuracy and perform QA/QC checks on all spatial data outputs.

D. Drawing Organization & Documentation

▸   Organize and maintain the project CAD and GIS file structure in accordance with Document Management System (DMS) protocols.

▸   Prepare and update drawing registers, revision logs, and as-built records.

▸   Ensure all drawings are properly titled, numbered, and filed per ISO/project standards.

▸   Coordinate with survey teams, site engineers, and GIS specialists to gather accurate field data for drawing updates.

E. Symbols, Hatches & Feature Attribute Display

▸   Design and create custom CAD symbols for railway-specific features including signals, level crossings, OHE structures, switches, buffer stops, and kilometre posts, in compliance with project drafting standards.

▸   Develop and apply standard hatch patterns for land use classification, geology zones, right-of-way boundaries, earthwork areas (cutting/filling/embankment), and drainage catchments across GIS layers.

▸   Configure and display feature attributes within Autodesk Map 3D using Data Connect and FDO (Feature Data Objects) to link spatial objects with their associated engineering properties and metadata.

▸   Set up label styles and annotation in Civil 3D to dynamically display feature attributes such as chainage, elevation, slope, structure IDs, and asset codes directly on drawings.

▸   Manage symbol libraries and hatch pattern files (.pat) in a centralized location and ensure consistent usage across all project drawings and GIS layers.

F. 2D & 3D Template and Layer Organization

▸   Create, maintain, and standardize 2D drawing templates (.dwt) incorporating project-specific title blocks, layer structures, text styles, dimension styles, and plot configurations for all drawing types.

▸   Develop and manage 3D Civil 3D drawing templates including corridor assembly templates, subassembly configurations, surface style templates, and profile view styles for railway track design.

▸   Organize and enforce a standardized layer naming convention across all 2D and 3D drawings following ISO 13567 or project-specific CAD standards, with defined colors, linetypes, and lineweights per feature type.

▸   Build and update layer state manager configurations to allow rapid switching between different display scenarios such as survey base, design overlay, GIS reference, and as-built views.

Audit and clean up existing drawing templates periodically to purge unused layers, blocks, styles, and XREFs to maintain optimal file performance

G. Layout Map Preparation

▸   Prepare professional layout maps and plan sets for railway project deliverables including alignment overview maps, corridor strip maps, detailed site plans, utility conflict maps, and land acquisition plans.

▸   Set up and manage paper space layouts in AutoCAD/Civil 3D with correctly scaled viewports, north arrows, scale bars, legend tables, and title block information for A1/A0 and custom-sized print sheets.

▸   Generate GIS-integrated thematic maps in Autodesk Map 3D displaying classified spatial layers such as land use, soil type, existing infrastructure, and environmental sensitivity zones along the railway corridor.

▸   Prepare key plan sheets, index maps, and matchline drawings for multi-sheet plan-profile deliverable sets, ensuring consistent referencing across the drawing package.

▸   Coordinate with the project GIS and survey team to incorporate real-time field updates into layout maps and ensure all map outputs are revision-controlled and properly archived.

H. Quality Assurance & Compliance

▸   Conduct internal QC reviews on all CAD and GIS outputs before submission to senior engineers or clients.

▸   Ensure compliance with railway authority standards, applicable codes, and client-specific CAD/GIS guidelines.

▸   Identify and flag spatial discrepancies, conflicts, or data gaps, and escalate issues with proposed solutions.

3. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Background

▸   Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Surveying, or a related technical discipline.

▸   Additional certification in GIS, AutoCAD, or related Autodesk products is a significant advantage.

Experience

▸   2 to 3 years of hands-on professional experience in AutoCAD-based drafting and GIS data management.

▸   Prior experience on railway, highway, metro, or large-scale linear infrastructure projects is strongly preferred.

▸   Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining multi-layer GIS datasets for engineering projects.
