Position Summary
The Senior Civil Engineer - Quality Control is responsible for ensuring construction projects meet all technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. This role involves comprehensive inspection, testing oversight, documentation, and technical guidance throughout the construction lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Control Review and approve construction drawings, specifications, and technical submittals. Conduct field inspections of civil works including foundations, concrete structures, roadways, utilities, and drainage systems. Monitor compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards. Oversee materials testing programs and coordinate with third-party testing laboratories.
Technical Leadership Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and field inspection staff. Review and approve quality control plans and inspection checklists. Investigate and resolve technical issues and non-conformances. Interface with contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies on technical matters.
Documentation & Reporting Maintain comprehensive inspection records and quality documentation. Prepare technical reports, non-conformance notices, and corrective action plans. Track project quality metrics and prepare regular status reports. Ensure proper documentation for regulatory compliance and project closeout.
Project Support Participate in design reviews and constructability assessments. Support project scheduling and coordinate QC activities with construction milestones. Mentor junior staff and conduct technical training sessions.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Minimum 7-10 years of civil engineering experience with significant QC focus. Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards (ACI, ASTM, AASHTO). Experience with inspection techniques, testing procedures, and quality management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Previous experience in construction management or consulting. Certification in quality management (CQE, CQA) or relevant specializations. Familiarity with BIM software and digital inspection tools.
Skills & Competencies
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in engineering software (AutoCAD, project management tools). Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
