Conservation Architect

Role Overview

We are seeking a Conservation Architect with a strong understanding of architectural heritage, traditional building practices, and adaptive reuse. The role involves documentation, restoration planning, and execution of conservation projects while balancing historical integrity with contemporary needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct heritage documentation including measured drawings, condition mapping, photographic surveys, and archival research
• Prepare conservation management plans (CMPs), restoration strategies, and adaptive reuse proposals
• Study historical construction techniques, materials, and cultural significance of structures/sites
• Develop restoration drawings, specifications, BOQs, and technical reports
• Coordinate with structural engineers, historians, archaeologists, craftsmen, and government authorities
• Supervise on-site conservation works to ensure adherence to approved methodologies
• Ensure compliance with ASI, State Archaeology, UNESCO, and other heritage regulations (as applicable)
• Guide skilled artisans and contractors in traditional materials and techniques
• Prepare presentations and reports for client reviews, approvals, and public consultations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
• Postgraduate specialization or certification in Architectural Conservation / Heritage Management (preferred)
• Registration with Council of Architecture (India)

Experience

• 5–10 years of professional experience in heritage conservation projects
• Proven work on historic buildings, precincts, cultural landscapes, or adaptive reuse projects
• Experience working with government bodies and heritage authorities is an advantage

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of traditional materials (lime, stone, brick, wood, etc.)
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, documentation tools, and report writing
• Understanding of conservation ethics and international charters (Venice Charter, Nara Document, etc.)
• Ability to balance historical authenticity with functional and safety requirements
• Excellent coordination, communication, and site management skills
