Tool and Die Maker

Role Objective:To lead die development and maintenance for zinc die casting operations, ensuring high-quality output, minimum downtime, and continuous improvement in tooling performance.

• Key Responsibilities:Develop, modify, and maintain zinc die casting dies to meet production and quality requirements.
• Handle complete die development lifecycle – from design support, trials, corrections, to final approval.
• Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of dies to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Analyze and resolve issues related to casting defects (porosity, flash, mismatch, filling issues, etc.).
• Ensure optimum die performance, life, and cycle time optimization.
• Work closely with production and quality teams for process improvement and defect reduction.
• Support new product development (NPD) and trial runs for new dies and components.
• Maintain proper documentation of die history, maintenance records, and modifications.
• Coordinate with external vendors for die manufacturing, repairs, and modifications when required.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives in tooling and casting processes.
• Key Skills & Competencies:Strong hands-on experience in zinc die casting die making and maintenance
• Good understanding of tool design, cooling systems, venting, gating, and ejection mechanisms
• Knowledge of casting defect analysis and root cause problem-solving
• Experience in precision machining, fitting, polishing, and tool correction
• Familiarity with plastic moulding tools is an added advantage
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
• Key KPIs:Die downtime reduction
• Die life and performance improvement
• Rejection rate due to die-related issues
• Trial success rate (first-time-right development)
• Maintenance turnaround time (MTTR)
• Preferred Profile:Candidates from automotive lockset industry will be highly preferred
• Experience in key core components, zinc casting, and plastic moulding tools
• Diploma / ITI in Tool & Die Making / Mechanical
• Strong hands-on shop floor experience with problem-solving mindset
