Lead Saftey Officer

Position: LEAD Safely Officer Industry: Steel Manufacturing

Experience: 5–9 Years

Location: As per plant/site requirement

Reporting to: HSE Head / Plant Head

Role Objective To lead and strengthen the safety culture across steel manufacturing operations by ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, implementing proactive safety systems, and reducing workplace risks and incidents.

• Key Responsibilities Lead implementation of Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) policies across plant operations
• Ensure compliance with Factory Act, OSHA, ISO 45001, and other statutory safety regulations
• Conduct risk assessments, HIRA, JSA, and safety audits for steel plant activities
• Monitor safety in blast furnace, rolling mills, SMS, power plant, material handling, etc.
• Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; implement corrective actions
• Lead toolbox talks, safety trainings, mock drills, and awareness programs
• Ensure proper use of PPE, safety signage, and emergency preparedness systems
• Coordinate with production, maintenance, and contractors to enforce safety standards
• Maintain safety documentation, reports, and statutory registers
• Drive behaviour-based safety (BBS) and continuous improvement initiatives
• Mentor junior safety officers and contract safety staff
• Key Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of steel plant operations & hazards
• Expertise in risk management & incident investigation
• Leadership & communication skills
• Ability to influence safe behavior on shop floor
• Familiarity with permit-to-work systems
• Good reporting and analytical skills

• Qualifications BE / B.Tech (Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical) or equivalent

• Diploma / PG Diploma in Industrial Safety (mandatory)

• Certifications like NEBOSH / IOSH (preferred)

• Experience Requirements5–9 years of hands-on safety experience in steel or heavy manufacturing industry

• Proven track record in reducing incidents and improving safety compliance

• KPIs Reduction in LTIFR / TRIR

• Audit compliance score

• Safety training coverage

• Incident closure time
