Field Service Technician

A Printing Machine Technician installs, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots printing equipment, ensuring smooth operation by handling hardware/software issues, performing preventative maintenance, managing supplies, and supporting users, often involving both mechanical/electrical fixes and network/software configuration for optimal print quality and workflow. 

Key Responsibilities

• Installation & Setup: Set up, configure, and install new printers and related devices, including drivers, network settings (TCP/IP), and software.
• Maintenance & Repair: Conduct routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, and minor to complex repairs, including replacing parts, troubleshooting jams, and resolving print quality issues (smudging, misalignment).
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware (mechanical, electrical) and software (drivers, queues) problems for standalone and networked printers, copiers, and scanners.
• User Support: Provide technical assistance and training to users, resolving printing issues and offering guidance.
• Inventory Management: Monitor, order, and manage supplies (ink, toner, paper) and spare parts.
• Quality Control: Perform test runs, calibrate machines, and conduct quality checks to meet specifications.
• Documentation: Maintain logs of maintenance, repairs, and supply usage.
• Safety: Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a safe working environment. 

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude, strong problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of printer hardware, software, drivers, and network protocols.
• Experience with specific printing technologies (e.g., digital, offset, UV inks) is often required.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work with detailed instructions and quality standards. 

Typical Work Environment

• May involve working with large production presses, smaller office equipment, or both.
• Requires coordination with IT, prepress, and finishing teams.
