Internship Opening: Database Engineering Intern (Travel Tech / Experiences Platform)

About the Role

We are building a next-generation travel experiences & sightseeing platform, similar in complexity to global players like Headout, Viator, and GetYourGuide.

As a Database Engineering Intern, you will work closely with the founding tech team to design, build, and optimize a new database architecture from scratch—covering sightseeing inventory, availability, pricing, bookings, and partner data.

This role is ideal for someone who wants real production exposure, not academic or dummy projects.

What You Will Work On

Designing relational schemas for:

Sightseeing products

Time-slot availability

Pricing rules & currencies

Bookings, cancellations, and refunds

Building PostgreSQL databases for transactional data (ACID-compliant workflows)

Designing MongoDB collections for flexible content:

Experience descriptions

Vendor metadata

Dynamic attributes (languages, inclusions, exclusions)

Implementing Redis caching for:

High-frequency read operations

Availability & pricing lookups

Understanding event-based data flow (Kafka or queue-based patterns)

Writing optimized queries, indexes, and data validation logic

Supporting API-driven architecture for future integrations

Tech Stack Exposure

You will get hands-on experience with:

PostgreSQL – schema design, joins, indexing, transactions

MongoDB – document modeling, aggregation pipelines

Redis – caching strategies, TTLs

SQL & NoSQL design patterns

REST / GraphQL data consumption (conceptual + practical)

Real-world data modeling for travel marketplaces

Who Should Apply

CS / IT / Data Engineering students or fresh graduates

Strong fundamentals in databases and data structures

Comfortable with SQL queries

Basic understanding of NoSQL concepts

Curiosity about how large platforms manage inventory at scale

Ability to think in terms of data models, not just code

Prior travel-tech experience is NOT required.

Bonus (Not Mandatory)

Familiarity with:

API-driven systems

ER diagrams

JSON-based data models

Interest in startups, SaaS, or marketplaces

Exposure to Docker or cloud databases (AWS / GCP)
