1. Position Summary



The Plant Incharge shall be responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, supervision, and statutory compliance of the Storm Water Pumping Station. The role includes ensuring continuous readiness and efficient functioning of pumps, gates, screens, electrical and mechanical systems, DG sets, instrumentation, and associated infrastructure, especially during monsoon and flood conditions.


The Plant Incharge will lead site teams for round-the-clock operation, preventive and breakdown maintenance, safety compliance, record keeping, and coordination with client / municipal authorities.





2. Key Responsibilities




A. Operations Management



  • Ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation of the Storm Water Pumping Station on a 24x7 basis.
  • Monitor and operate:
  • Main storm water pumps
  • Dewatering / auxiliary pumps
  • Trash / bar screens / screening systems
  • Penstocks / sluice gates / flap gates
  • Valves and associated pipelines
  • MCC / PCC / control panels
  • DG sets / emergency power backup
  • SCADA / PLC / instrumentation systems (if installed)

  • Ensure pumps are operated as per:
  • Tide conditions
  • Rainfall intensity
  • Water levels in wet well / approach channel
  • BMC / client instructions

  • Maintain full plant readiness before and during monsoon.






B. Maintenance & Equipment Reliability



  • Plan and supervise preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and breakdown maintenance of all equipment.
  • Ensure regular inspection and servicing of:
  • Pump sets and motors
  • Gearboxes / couplings / bearings
  • Electrical panels and switchgear
  • Transformers / DG sets
  • Hoists / cranes / lifting systems
  • Screening / conveyor systems
  • Ventilation / dehumidification systems
  • Instrumentation and control systems

  • Prepare and implement:
  • Daily checklists
  • Weekly maintenance schedules
  • Monthly preventive maintenance plans
  • Annual shutdown / overhaul plans

  • Ensure critical spares inventory is always maintained.
  • Coordinate with OEMs / vendors for specialized repairs and annual servicing.






C. Manpower & Shift Supervision



  • Supervise plant operators, electricians, fitters, helpers, housekeeping staff, security, and contract labour.
  • Prepare and manage:
  • Shift rosters
  • Duty allocation

  • Leave planning

  • Ensure proper manpower deployment for:
  • Normal operations
  • Monsoon emergency

D. Monsoon / Emergency Preparedness



  • Ensure the station is fully prepared before onset of monsoon, including:

  • Respond immediately during:
  • Heavy rainfall

G. Client / Authority Coordination



  • Act as the primary point of contact at site for client representatives / municipal officers.

  • Ensure timely compliance of client instructions and observations.
  • Support preparation of:
  • RA bill measurement inputs
  • Site performance records
  • O&M compliance documents
  • Asset condition reports
  • Improvement / rectification proposals






H. Asset Preservation & Performance Improvement



  • Monitor equipment health and suggest improvement measures.
  • Identify recurring faults and implement corrective / preventive actions.
  • Recommend:
  • Spares planning
  • Replacement of worn-out components
  • Operational improvements
  • Energy optimization
  • Reliability enhancements

  • Ensure long-term preservation of municipal / client assets under O&M scope.






3. Required Qualifications



  • Diploma / Degree in:
  • Mechanical Engineering, or
  • Electrical Engineering, or
  • Instrumentation / Mechatronics (preferred in integrated plants)

  • Additional certifications in safety / electrical operations / DG / PLC / SCADA will be an advantage.






4. Experience Required



  • Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience in operation and maintenance of:
  • Pumping stations
  • Water / wastewater pumping systems
  • Storm water pumping stations
  • STP / WTP / CETP / ETP utilities
  • Municipal infrastructure / utility plants

  • Preference for candidates with:
  • Experience in large pumps, flood management systems, municipal pumping stations
  • Experience in 24x7 shift-based utility operations
  • Exposure to monsoon emergency operations
  • Experience with BMC / municipal / government contracts






5. Required Technical Skills
