Landscape Draughtsman

Key Purpose of the Job

The Landscape Draughtsman is responsible for transforming initial landscape designs into precise technical drawings and detailed construction documents. The role requires a deep understanding of landscape construction details, hardscape-softscape integration, and the ability to produce high-quality CAD and 3D outputs to support site execution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Drafting & Documentation

• Prepare detailed landscape architectural drawings including Master Plans, Layout Plans, Grading Plans, and Sectional Elevations.
• Develop comprehensive construction details for hardscape elements (paving, water features, boundary walls, and outdoor structures).
• Ensure all drawings adhere to company standards, layering protocols, and scale requirements.
• Revise drawings based on site conditions or architect feedback, maintaining an accurate "As-Built" record.

2. Softscape Drafting & Horticulture Coordination

• Prepare detailed Planting Plans and Softscape Layouts based on the Architect's design.
• Develop schedules for plants, trees, and shrubs, ensuring botanical names and quantities are accurately documented.
• Draft specialized details for soil profiles, irrigation layouts, and tree-planting pits.
• Understand the spatial requirements of different plant species to ensure realistic drafting of growth patterns.

3. Technical Understanding & Quality Control

• Review and verify technical dimensions, material specifications, and levels before issuing drawings for construction (IFC).
• Interpret topographical surveys and integrate them into the landscape base files.
• Ensure that all drawings comply with safety standards and local building codes.

4. Coordination & Reporting

• Coordinate with the Site Engineer and Factory team to ensure that shop drawings are practical for execution and manufacturing.
• Maintain a systematic digital filing system for all drawing versions and revisions.
• Provide regular updates to the Design Manager regarding the status of pending drawings and documentation.

Key Skills & Experience Required

• Educational Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, or Landscape Design.
• Experience: Minimum 3+ years of proven experience specifically in landscape drafting.

Technical Proficiency:

• AutoCAD: Expert-level command of 2D drafting and documentation.
• SketchUp: Proficiency in 3D modeling for landscape visualization.
• MS Office: Strong knowledge of Excel (for BOQ and plant schedules) and Word.

Competencies:

• Excellent understanding of Landscape Technical Details (materials, finishes, and construction methods).
• Strong knowledge of Softscape Drafting (planting schemes and irrigation basics).
• High attention to detail and accuracy in dimensioning and labeling.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple project files simultaneously.
