Job Description
Manual Jewellery Designer
Job Purpose
The Manual Jewellery Designer will conceptualize and create original jewellery designs (rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants, etc.) through hand sketching, model making, and close collaboration with the production team. The role requires translating creative ideas into technically feasible designs while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship, aesthetics, and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Create initial concept sketches, hand drawings, and design renderings of jewellery pieces (rings, earrings, pendants, bracelets, etc.)
Translate design ideas into technical drawings and specification sheets for production (dimensions, materials, gemstones, finishing details)
Develop prototypes or mock-ups (wax, resin, metal, or 3D printed models) or collaborate with model makers
Select appropriate gemstones, diamonds, metals, and other materials in line with design standards and cost considerations
Work closely with the production/manufacturing team to resolve design-to-manufacturing challenges
Modify and refine designs based on feedback from product management, quality control, marketing, or client customization requirements
Stay updated with jewellery design trends, materials, and manufacturing techniques
Prepare design documentation, bill of materials (BOM), cost estimates, and material specifications
Collaborate with marketing and visual merchandising teams to prepare design presentations, lookbooks, or promotional renderings
Ensure all designs align with quality standards and production feasibility
Engage in bespoke or custom design projects when required
Qualifications & Skills
Proven portfolio of jewellery or accessory designs (hand-drawn and/or digital)
Strong hand-sketching skills with a good sense of form, proportion, and aesthetics
Knowledge of jewellery techniques (stone setting, metalwork, casting) and materials (metals, gemstones)
Technical proficiency in jewellery design software (e.g., Rhino, MatrixGold, CAD for jewellery) is an advantage
Ability to produce detailed technical drawings with dimensions and specifications
Strong spatial and 3D visualization skills
High attention to detail and precision
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
Creative mindset with awareness of industry trends
Understanding of cost constraints, material sourcing, and manufacturing limitations
