Pressure Vessel Fabricator – Job DescriptionOverviewA Pressure Vessel Fabricator is responsible for the construction, assembly, repair, and modification of pressure vessels and related components in accordance with engineering drawings, ASME Code requirements, and industry safety standards. This role involves specialized welding, metal forming, layout, cutting, and inspection work to ensure vessels can safely contain gases or liquids under pressure.

• Key ResponsibilitiesRead and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, isometric sketches, and ASME Section VIII requirements.
• Fabricate pressure vessels by cutting, fitting, rolling, forming, and assembling steel plate and structural materials.
• Perform welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and GMAW in compliance with qualified WPS and PQR documents.
• Operate fabrication equipment including plate rolls, press brakes, oxy-fuel cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, and overhead cranes.
• Fit and align components (shells, heads, nozzles, manways, saddles) to required tolerances.
• Conduct visual inspections and perform dimensional checks to verify accuracy and code compliance.
• Collaborate with engineers, inspectors, and QA/QC personnel to meet project specifications.
• Prepare vessels for testing, including hydrostatic and pneumatic tests, in accordance with safety protocols.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure a safe and efficient fabrication environment.
• Follow all safety procedures related to confined spaces, pressure systems, welding, material handling, and PPE.
• Required Skills & QualificationsProficiency in blueprint reading and fabrication math (fractions, angles, tolerances).
• Strong welding skills with ability to pass code-certified weld tests.
• Experience fabricating components in ASME Section VIII Division 1 environments (preferred).
• Knowledge of metallurgy, weld symbols, and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to operate heavy fabrication equipment safely.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and stand for extended periods.
• Education & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Technical trade school certificate in welding or metal fabrication (preferred).
• 2–5+ years of experience in pressure vessel or heavy industrial fabrication.
• ASME or CWB welding certifications (highly preferred).
