A waiter's job description includes:

Customer service: Greet customers, answer questions about the menu, and provide recommendations

Taking orders: Take food and drink orders accurately and quickly

Serving food and drinks: Deliver food and drinks to customers, and ensure the food is prepared correctly

Handling payments: Process bills and payments through the cash register

Maintaining cleanliness: Set tables, clear dishes, and clean tables after customers

Following health and safety regulations: Follow food safety regulations and hygiene standards

Shift duties: Deliver cups, roll silverware, and pre-bus tables

Communication: Communicate with kitchen and bartending staff, and with customers to ensure satisfaction

Meetings: Attend meetings with restaurant and kitchen managers to learn about menu changes

Waiters should have excellent customer service skills, and outgoing, and be able to work well in a fast-paced environment. They should also be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25–50 pounds.
