Waiter / Steward

The Cafe Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the cafe’s dining area, kitchen, and equipment. They play a key role in supporting service staff, handling inventory, and ensuring all health and safety regulations are met to provide a clean environment for guests. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Cleaning & Sanitation: Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using machines or by hand; clean dining tables, chairs, floors, and restrooms.
• Dining Area Maintenance: Clear dirty tables promptly, reset them for new guests, and keep condiment stations stocked.
• Kitchen Support: Assist kitchen staff with basic food prep, storage, and organizing pantry items.
• Waste Management: Dispose of garbage, recycling, and food waste efficiently and safely.
• Equipment Care: Ensure kitchen machinery is clean and in working order; report maintenance issues.
• Inventory Assistance: Help manage cleaning supplies and stock levels.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations. 

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: Previous experience as a steward, kitchen hand, or in hospitality is preferred.
• Hygiene Knowledge: Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and cleaning chemicals.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Organization: Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with servers and kitchen staff.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
