About our Team

Cell Press, part of Elsevier's STM Journals, collaborates with researchers to publish impactful scientific discoveries through rigorous peer review, ethics, and reproducibility. We support over 50 hybrid and open access journals, contributing to advancements in science, health outcomes, and equitable publishing. We are expanding our team of scientific editors for iScience, an interdisciplinary open access journal covering life, health, physical, earth, and social sciences. We collaborate closely with authors, editors, reviewers, and societies to ensure the integrity and impact of the published work. Through innovation in editorial workflows and publishing technology, we help global research communities discover, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge that advances science and improves lives.

About the Role

We are looking to expand our team and hire an Associate Scientific editor at iScience (https://www.cell.com/iscience), an exciting broad scope open access journal in Cell press, publishing in the life, health, physical and social sciences. 

We are seeking to add an experienced and enthusiastic Scientific Editor, who shares our passion for helping scientists publish their work in a straightforward and timely way.

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting exciting research papers for submission to iScience and fostering communities of interest 

  • Assess submitted research papers  

  • Oversee the peer review process for direct submissions and transferred contributions  

  • Establish relationships with researchers  

  • Recruit exciting research papers and reviews for submission to iScience  

  • Represent the journal and Cell Press at scientific meetings, and visits to research institutions    

  • Work collaboratively with academic editorial board members and editors  

  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues across Cell Press and beyond  

Requirements

  • PhD or post-doctoral research in Life sciences with strong expertise in a) stem cell biology/developmental biology, or alternatively in b) metabolic disease/endocrinology/reproductive biology. 

  • Previous editorial experience is not mandatory for this role. 

  • Applicants with a professional background such as running a research group or working in industry are also encouraged to apply. 

  • Broad scientific interests, a desire to learn, and the ability to think critically about a wide range of scientific issues. As a scientific editor, you will need to develop an understanding of the diverse areas covered by the journal, as well as be open to exciting emerging topics.  

  • Great interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job. 

  • Strong ability to communicate clearly. 

  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and focus. 

  • Creativity, willingness to experiment, and desire to improve. 

  • The ability to work well in a diverse team is crucial for the position.
