Head Subsurface

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and manage the functioning of the cross functional subsurface team of Geologists, Geophysicists, Reservoir engineers and JV Management to ensure timely delivery exploration, appraisal, and development programs in line with PSC/PSC timelines. 
• Key studies and investigations are generally performed through contracted agencies (Consultants/ etc) viz seismic processing, reprocessing, inversion, sand management studies these would have to be QCed and monitored to extract the maximum benefit to the Company.
• Interact with various technical teams within the Company for providing subsurface inputs as and when required for the drilling and surface facilities teams. 
• Provide technical inputs and liaise with regulatory agencies like DGH and GoI for timely approvals and safeguarding the Companies objectives. 
• Ensure that development plans are designed for fit-for-purpose and appropriate execution methods, whilst maintaining necessary and appropriate subsurface geological and geophysical objectives of the Company. 
• Interact and ensure the involvement of the sub-surface team in all tendering processes for award of G&G and reservoir consultancy/contract services. Ensure smooth interface with the selected vendors, contractors, etc. to ensure transfer of deliverables to & from these agencies for the successful completion of consultancy services. 
• Align technology and engineering initiatives with corporate strategy. Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency. Champion a strong safety culture across all technical and operational teams. Promote innovation in exploration, production, and digital transformation. Lead R&D efforts to improve recovery rates and reduce operational costs. 
• Build and mentor a multidisciplinary technical team. Cultivate a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Foster collaboration with external partners and research institutions.

The secondary functions of the role are:

• Develop & maintain a strong judicious mix of specialized subsurface team comprising of geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineering personnel.  Liaise with HR in recruitment, training & development, and periodic performance assessment of the subsurface team. 
• Provide general subsurface inputs for the Company business as required, and to take on any additional responsibilities as appropriate from time to time.

Qualifications

• Qualifications: Master’s degree in Petroleum Geology/Applied Geology/Geophysics and related fields from a reputed institute viz. IITs etc. A doctoral degree would be an added advantage. Minimum of 30+ years of experience in an Operating Oil & Gas Company of which at least 10 years should be in a middle / senior management level leading cross functional subsurface team.
• Business understanding: In depth knowledge of Oil & Gas exploration and development concepts. 
• Prior experience in working along the Western offshore basins of the Indian sub-continent will be an added advantage. 
• Knowledge: Interpretation and evaluation of clastic and carbonate plays. Should be conversant with geological and geophysical workflows for identification of prospects for exploration and development. Operations/Wellsite geology experience would be an added advantage. 
• Skills: Through understanding of exploration, appraisal and development leading to formulation of Field development plans which need to be reviewed and approved by regulators. In depth understanding of PRMS guidelines for estimation of resources and reserves. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, reporting & presentation skills.
