Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team, responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of our MySQL and Postgres databases. The candidate should have a strong background in database design, development, and performance tuning, with expertise in both MySQL and Postgres administration.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Database Administration:

Install, configure, and maintain MySQL and Postgres databases on Linux/RDS/GCP platforms. Manage database security, including user authentication, access control, and encryption. Perform regular database backups and ensure data recovery procedures are in place.

2. Performance Tuning:

Monitor database performance and identify areas for improvement. Optimize database configuration, indexing, and queries for better performance. Analyze and troubleshoot database issues using tools like EXPLAIN, slow query log, and database monitoring tools.

3. Troubleshooting and Support:

Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including errors, crashes, and performance problems. Provide technical support to developers and other teams, including query optimization and database design guidance.

4. Capacity Planning and Scaling:

Monitor database growth and plan for capacity upgrades and scaling. Implement database replication, sharding, or other scaling techniques as needed.

Requirements:

1. Technical Skills:

1+ years of experience as a DBA, with expertise in both MySQL and Postgres. Strong knowledge of database design, installation, configuration and performance tuning principles.  Experience with Linux operating systems and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python). Familiarity with database monitoring and management tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana) would be added advantages.

2. Soft Skills:

Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with ability to work with technical and non-technical teams. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.

3. Additional Technical Skills:

Experience with cloud-based databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL). Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes).  Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Ruby).
