Role Description

  • This role sits within Operational Risk Management and provides independent oversight and challenge of how the bank manages data and records risk.

  • Through this role you will work closely with business, technology, and data teams to ensure that data governance, data quality, and records management practices are effective, consistent, and aligned with regulatory expectations.

  • This is a second line role (2LOD), but it will be well suited to candidates with strong experience in data governance, data management, records management, or information governance, who want to apply that expertise in a broader risk and oversight context.

Your Key responsibilities

The Data & Records Management Risk Type Lead – Independent Validation oversees and validates the organization's Data and Records Management risk framework. This role ensures effective design, consistent implementation, and regulatory alignment of data governance and quality, and records management, and information lifecycle controls.

  • Provide independent oversight of data and records management risk across the organisation

  • Review and challenge how data governance, data quality, and records lifecycle controls are designed and operating

  • Partner with the business, technology, and Chief Data Office to identify control gaps, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities

  • Support senior governance forums with clear, practical risk insights

  • Contribute to thematic reviews, regulatory responses, and audit interactions related to data and records

  • Help strengthen enterprise-wide standards, frameworks, and best practices

Your skills and experience

We’re looking for someone who brings strong domain expertise and can apply it with independence and judgement.

Relevant experience may include:

  • Prior experience in a 2LOD / 3LOD role or experience of managing operational risk in 1LOD

  • Data governance, data management, or records management in a regulated environment

  • Information governance, data quality, metadata, lineage, or records lifecycle management

  • Working with relevant control frameworks, audits, or regulatory expectations

  • Providing challenge, assurance, or independent review to senior stakeholders

  • Strong background in dealing with multiple stakeholders throughout all levels of the organisation

  • Ability to translate complex data practices into clear risk insights

  • Confidence engaging and challenging senior stakeholders constructively

  • Strong analytical thinking with a pragmatic, outcomes-focused mindset

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate complex risk issues, challenge stakeholders, and present findings clearly
