Job Title: MEP Design Manager - Plumbing & Sanitary
Key Responsibilities
Design and Development: Lead and manage the design of detailed plumbing and sanitary systems, including domestic cold and hot water supply, drainage, sewage, storm water, and waste and venting systems. This also often includes fire protection systems like sprinklers and fire hydrants.
Calculations and Documentation: Perform necessary calculations for pressure loss, flow rates, and material specifications. Prepare and review drawings, plans, schematics, and technical details in 2D and 3D formats, utilizing software such as AutoCAD MEP or Revit.
Compliance and Standards: Ensure all designs comply with local and international building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards. Liaise with government authorities to secure necessary sanctions, NOCs (No Objection Certificates), and approvals.
Coordination and Integration: Coordinate extensively with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and HVAC teams, to integrate systems seamlessly and resolve design clashes. Act as the primary point of contact for MEP-related discussions with clients, consultants, and contractors.
Management and Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of plumbing and MEP engineers and coordinators. Oversee the entire design process from concept to execution.
Site Support and Execution: Provide support during the construction phase by reviewing shop drawings, conducting quality control checks and site inspections, and assisting with testing and commissioning of installed systems.
Budgeting and Cost Control: Contribute to project budgeting, cost monitoring, value engineering, and contract administration for plumbing and sanitary works.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: A bachelor's degree in mechanical or civil engineering is typically required.
Experience: Significant hands-on experience in MEP design for building/infrastructure projects, with a strong focus on Public Health Engineering (PHE) systems.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in design and project management software like AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and MS Office. Strong knowledge of plumbing codes (e.g., NFPA, NBC) is essential.
Soft Skills: Excellent organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are vital for managing multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
