Structural Designer

Responsibilities

Structural Design and Analysis:

Develop detailed structural designs for all the city side development projects. Lead the review and approval of Civil/Structural engineering design drawings and specifications in coordination with other disciplines.

Ensure the Design Basis includes accurate loads and combinations to capture all structural requirements.

Assess Geo-Technical Investigation reports and recommendations to ensure the adoption of appropriate foundation systems and subsurface treatments.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that designs align with architectural aesthetics and functional requirements by validating designs through peer reviews and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations.

Issue Good For Construction (GFC) drawings and provide inputs for site related queries.

Ensure effective communication of design concepts and rationale to stakeholders is critical to gain approval and facilitate project progression.

Project Management and Coordination:

Oversees project management activities related to structural design, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget by ,developing project scopes, timelines, and resource allocations while coordinating with various stakeholders, including architects, MEPF Engineers contractors, and regulatory authorities.

Monitor progress and address any emerging challenges or risks that could impact project outcomes and to share regular updates and reports with senior management to track project performance and ensure accountability.

Identify potential risks related to structural designs and provide mitigation strategies to address them.

Resolve all civil/structural issues, including those arising during and post-construction, in coordination with contractors and CSD site teams.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

Ensure the quality and compliance of structural designs with local, national, and international building codes by conducting thorough reviews and quality checks of design documents, calculations, and specifications to identify any discrepancies or areas that do not meet required standards.

Stay updated on changes to relevant codes and regulations and incorporate them into design practices by establishing a culture of quality within the design team.

Ensure compliance with fire and lightning protection norms as per NBC and international standards like NFPA.

Work closely with QA teams to review and approve Material Test Certificates (MTCs), ensuring materials meet technical and code requirements.

Innovation and Technology Integration:

Integrate innovative technologies and methodologies into structural design practices by researching and adopting new materials, construction techniques, and design software that can enhance project efficiency and sustainability.

Evaluate the potential benefits and risks associated with new technologies and make informed decisions about their implementation by encouraging a culture of innovation within the team and to foster collaboration with technology vendors and industry experts.

Stakeholder Management:

Play a vital role in engaging and communicating with various stakeholders involved in CSD projects, including senior management, contractors, regulatory agencies, and community representatives by articulating design concepts, project progress, and addressing any concerns or feedback from stakeholders.

Prepare and present reports, hold meetings, and facilitate discussions to ensure transparency and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

Team Leadership and Development:

Manage and mentor a team of structural engineers, providing guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Ensure that the team has access to the latest tools, resources, and training to improve designing capabilities and keep up with industry advancements.

Documentation of Reporting:

Ensure comprehensive documentation of all design processes, analyses, and calculations to maintain a clear record of structural decisions and methodologies.

Prepare detailed reports on project specifications and design changes to facilitate communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Work Experience:

15-18+ years of experience in structural design and engineering, preferably within the aviation or transportation sectors. Proven track record of managing complex projects, leading design teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations while delivering high-quality, innovative structural solutions for airport infrastructure.
