Job Description

Role Purpose

The Tool Room Manager is responsible for planning, execution, and continuous improvement of the in-house tool room for injection moulds. The role focuses on on-time delivery of high-quality moulds, rapid product development support, mould life optimisation, and cost control, while ensuring strong coordination with Design, Production, and Quality teams.


Key Responsibilities – Tool Room Operations & Execution• Plan and execute manufacturing of new injection moulds, inserts, sliders, and fixtures

• Ensure first-time-right mould trials

• Oversee CNC, EDM, fitting, and assembly activities

• Ensure mould accuracy, finish, cooling, and ejection performance


Mould Design & Development Oversight

• Review mould designs for manufacturability, cooling, venting, and steel selection

• Drive standardization of mould bases and components

• Approve drawings, BOMs, and revisions


Mould Trials, Validation & Handover

• Plan and execute mould trials

• Analyse defects and drive corrective actions

• Ensure proper handover with trial reports and maintenance guidelines


Mould Maintenance & Life Management

• Establish preventive maintenance schedules

• Track mould life, breakdowns, and repair history

• Reduce mould downtime and failures


Cost Control & CAPEX Governance

• Manage tool room CAPEX and OPEX

• Monitor mould costs vs budgets

• Evaluate make-vs-buy and vendor performance


Team Leadership & Skill Development

• Lead and mentor CNC, EDM, and fitting teams

• Define skill matrices and training plans

• Enforce discipline, safety, and quality culture


Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure SOP, safety, and 5S compliance

• Implement quality checks at every stage

• Drive root cause analysis for failures


Key Performance Indicators

• On-time mould delivery

• First trial success rate

• Mould development lead time

• Mould downtime and breakdown frequency

• Cost vs budget performance


Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma / BE in Mechanical or Tool & Die Engineering

• 8–15 years experience in injection mould tool rooms

• 3–5 years in leadership role


Skills & Competencies• Injection mould design knowledge

• CNC & EDM process understanding

• Strong planning, leadership, and problem-solving skills


Authority & Decision Rights• Approve mould designs and modifications

• Allocate manpower and machine time

• Recommend outsourcing and CAPEX
