Roles & Responsibilities

1. Animal Health & Treatment

Diagnose and treat illnesses in cows and buffaloes.

Provide emergency medical care and first aid when required.

Prescribe medicines and ensure correct dosage and withdrawal periods.

Maintain health records of all animals.

2. Preventive Healthcare

Plan and implement vaccination schedules.

Conduct regular deworming and ectoparasite control.

Monitor herd health and prevent disease outbreaks.

Advise on biosecurity and hygiene practices.

3. Reproduction & Breeding Management

Handle artificial insemination (AI) and natural breeding programs.

Detect heat (estrus) and manage fertility issues.

Diagnose pregnancy and monitor gestation.

Manage calving and post-partum care.

4. Nutrition & Feeding Support

Advise on balanced feed and fodder planning.

Monitor body condition score (BCS).

Support ration formulation to improve milk yield and animal health.

Identify and address nutritional deficiencies.

5. Milk Production & Quality Support

Support practices to improve milk yield and quality.

Monitor and control mastitis and udder health.

Ensure compliance with milk safety and hygiene standards.

6. Disease Control & Reporting

Identify contagious diseases and take immediate control measures.

Coordinate with government veterinary departments if required.

Maintain treatment, vaccination, and mortality records.

Assist during audits and inspections.

7. Farm Hygiene & Animal Welfare

Ensure proper sanitation of sheds, milking areas, and equipment.

Promote animal welfare and humane handling.

Monitor housing, ventilation, and comfort of animals.

8. Training & Supervision

Train farm staff on:

Animal handling

Milking hygiene

Basic health observation

Guide attendants on daily animal care practices.

9. Inventory & Medicine Management

Monitor veterinary medicine stock.

Ensure proper storage and usage of drugs and vaccines.

Avoid misuse of antibiotics and ensure compliance with regulations.

10. Compliance & Documentation

Ensure compliance with:

Animal welfare laws

Dairy and food safety regulations

Maintain accurate veterinary and farm health documentation.

Qualifications

BVSc & AH / MVSc (Veterinary Science)

Registered with State Veterinary Council

Experience in dairy farms with cows and buffaloes preferred

Experience (Preferred)

2–5 years in dairy farm operations

Key Skills:

Strong diagnostic and treatment skills

Knowledge of dairy herd management

Good communication with farm staff

Record keeping and reporting
