Mechanical CAD Designer

Job Title: CAD Designer – Sheet Metal (Metal Fabrication)

Job Summary:

We are hiring a skilled CAD Designer for our metal fabrication business, specializing in sheet metal design. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating accurate production-ready designs using SolidWorks or Siemens NX, understanding fabrication requirements, calculating material usage, performing nesting, and providing correct data to machine operators to ensure smooth and efficient production.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create detailed sheet metal designs and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
• Understand project requirements, specifications, and fabrication constraints before developing designs.
• Prepare manufacturing-ready drawings, including bend details, flat patterns, and assembly drawings.
• Calculate required raw material quantities accurately to meet production and order requirements.
• Perform nesting of sheet metal parts to optimize material utilization and reduce wastage.
• Generate and provide DXF / CNC / laser cutting files and other required data to machine operators.
• Coordinate with production, fabrication, and machine operators to ensure design feasibility and accuracy.
• Make design modifications based on production feedback or site requirements.
• Maintain proper documentation, version control, and design records.
• Support continuous improvement in design efficiency and manufacturing processes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience as a CAD Designer in a metal fabrication or sheet metal environment.
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or Siemens NX (Sheet Metal Module).
• Good understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes such as laser cutting, bending, welding, and assembly.
• Experience in nesting techniques and material optimization.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and production specifications.
• Knowledge of tolerances, bend allowances, and fabrication standards.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience working directly with laser cutting, CNC, plasma, or punch machines.
• Familiarity with ERP or production planning coordination is an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under deadlines in a production-oriented environment.

Work Environment:

• Office-based design role with regular coordination with the shop floor and production team.
• Hands-on involvement with real-time fabrication and manufacturing processes.
