Project Costing & Estimation

A Project Costing Engineer is responsible for estimating, planning, monitoring, and controlling project costs to ensure the project is completed within budget and on time. Below is a clear overview of the key work and responsibilities:

🔹 Project Costing Engineer – Key Responsibilities

• Cost Estimation & Budgeting

1. Prepare detailed cost estimates for projects (materials, labor, equipment, overheads).
2. Study drawings, BOQs, specifications, and scope of work.
3. Develop project budgets and cost breakdown structures (CBS).

• Tendering & BOQ Preparation

1. Prepare and review BOQs for tenders.
2. Analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations.
3. Support techno-commercial evaluations.

• Cost Control & Monitoring

1. Track actual costs vs budgeted costs.
2. Identify cost overruns and suggest corrective actions.
3. Maintain cost reports and cash flow statements.

• Billing & Invoicing

1. Prepare RA bills / running bills.
2. Verify subcontractor bills and material invoices.
3. Coordinate with accounts for client billing and payments.

• Material & Resource Planning

1. Assist in material planning and quantity tracking.
2. Monitor material consumption to avoid wastage.
3. Coordinate with procurement and site teams.

• Variation & Change Management

1. Evaluate extra items, variations, and claims.
2. Prepare cost impact statements for scope changes.
3. Support contract amendments.

• Coordination & Reporting

1. Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, procurement, and finance teams.
2. Prepare weekly/monthly cost reports for management.
3. Support audits and internal reviews.

🔹 Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of cost estimation & project costing
• Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word
• Understanding of contracts & BOQs
• Analytical and communication skills
