Technical Architect, Database CSS Tech Delivery,
As a member of the Support organization, your focus is to deliver post-sales support and solutions to the Oracle customer base while serving as an advocate for customer needs. This involves resolving post-sales non-technical customer inquiries via phone and electronic means, as well as, technical questions regarding the use of and troubleshooting for our Electronic Support Services. A primary point of contact for customers, you are responsible for facilitating customer relationships with Support and providing advice and assistance to internal Oracle employees on diverse customer situations and escalated issues.
Key Responsibilities
**Performance Tuning & Optimization (Core Focus)
- Lead proactive and reactive performance tuning for SQL, PL/SQL, and database configuration (AWR/ASH, SQL Monitor, execution plans, wait events).
- Diagnose systemic issues (latches, locks, IO bottlenecks, memory, CPU, network) and deliver durable fixes with measurable outcomes.
- Partner with application and infrastructure teams to optimize end-to-end performance (schema design, indexing strategy, connection management, workload patterns).
- Establish and refine performance baselines, monitoring thresholds, and tuning playbooks.
**Consulting & Technical Leadership**
- Act as a trusted advisor to engineering, operations, and architecture stakeholders for database strategy, best practices, and risk mitigation.
- Lead technical reviews for schema changes, deployments, and architecture decisions; provide strong recommendations and trade-off analysis.
- Mentor and upskill DBAs and engineers; raise overall operational maturity through standards, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- Drive incident response for database-related outages and lead post-incident RCA with corrective/preventative actions.
**Database Administration & Operations**
- Administer and support Oracle Database environments (single instance and RAC as applicable) across dev/test/prod with high availability and resilience.
- Own backup/recovery strategy and execution (RMAN), disaster recovery planning/testing (Data Guard/Active Data Guard where applicable), and patching/upgrades.
- Manage storage and capacity planning (ASM, tablespaces, growth forecasting) and lifecycle maintenance. -
Ensure secure configuration and compliance-aligned operations (least privilege, auditing, encryption where required).
**Automation & Operational Excellence**
- Improve reliability through automation and tooling (scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code patterns where relevant, repeatable runbooks).
- Standardize operational procedures (patching cadence, backup validation, DR tests, change management).
- Improve observability (metrics, alerting, dashboards) and reduce mean-time-to-detect/resolve.
Required experience:
- 15+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA / database consultant supporting enterprise, high-availability systems.
- Expert-level Oracle performance tuning and troubleshooting (AWR/ASH, SQL tracing, execution plan analysis, wait event methodology).
- RMAN backup/recovery
- Data Guard/Active Data Guard (or equivalent DR implementation)
- Patching and upgrades (including planning, rollback strategy, and validation)
- Security best practices (roles/privileges, auditing, encryption concepts)
- Ability to lead complex technical efforts independently and influence cross-functional teams.
Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and/or similar monitoring platforms.
- Experience supporting large-scale OLTP and/or data warehouse workloads.
- Familiarity with Exadata and engineered systems (if applicable).
- Strong scripting/automation skills (Python/Shell/Ansible or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
-- Oracle certifications (OCM /OCP/OCE) a plus.
