Job Description
Department: Pharmacy
Reporting To: Hospital Administrator
Job Summary
The Hospital Pharmacist is responsible for the safe procurement, storage, dispensing, and management of medicines and medical supplies within the hospital. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations, supports doctors and nursing staff, and maintains high standards of patient safety and care.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pharmacy Operations
Dispense medicines accurately against valid prescriptions.
Verify dosage, drug interactions, and contraindications.
Maintain proper labeling, packing, and patient instructions.
Handle emergency and STAT medication requirements.
2. Inventory & Stock Management
Procure medicines, surgical items, and consumables as per hospital needs.
Maintain optimal stock levels to avoid shortages or expiries.
Monitor expiry dates and ensure FIFO (First In, First Out).
Prepare purchase indent and coordinate with vendors.
3. Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure compliance with Drugs & Cosmetics Act and Pharmacy Council regulations.
Maintain statutory registers (Schedule H, H1, NDPS if applicable).
Assist during inspections by Drug Inspector or other authorities.
Ensure proper storage conditions (temperature, cold chain, narcotics).
4. Coordination & Clinical Support
Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and ICU staff for medication requirements.
Guide nursing staff on drug administration when required.
Participate in antibiotic stewardship and medication safety programs.
5. Documentation & Billing
Maintain daily sales, issue, and stock records.
Coordinate with billing department for pharmacy billing.
Maintain patient-wise drug issue records (IPD/OPD).
Prepare monthly reports on consumption and stock status.
6. Patient Counseling
Counsel patients on dosage, timing, side effects, and precautions.
Educate patients on storage of medicines and compliance.
7. Housekeeping & Safety
Maintain cleanliness and organization of pharmacy premises.
Ensure segregation and disposal of expired or damaged drugs.
Follow hospital infection control and safety protocols.
Required Qualifications:-
D.Pharm / B.Pharm (mandatory)
Registered with State Pharmacy Council
2–5 years preferred for hospital pharmacy experience
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge of hospital medications and formulations
Attention to detail and accuracy

Computer knowledge (Hospital Information System / Billing Software)
Good communication and teamwork
Ability to work in shifts
