Job Description

An Accounting and HR Assistant occupies a dual-function role, providing administrative support to both the finance and human resources departments. This position is common in small to mid-sized companies where one individual manages clerical tasks across both domains to ensure operational efficiency. YWCA Spokane +3

Core Responsibilities

Human Resources Support

  • Recruitment & Onboarding: Post job openings, screen resumes, schedule interviews, and conduct background or reference checks. Coordinate new hire orientations and prepare onboarding materials.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and confidential employee files, including contracts, performance reviews, and attendance records.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding company policies, benefits, and procedures.
  • Benefits & Compliance: Assist in benefits enrollment, track leave/PTO, and ensure compliance with labour laws and safety regulations. YWCA Spokane +10

Accounting Support

  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Process supplier invoices, reconcile vendor statements, and follow up on outstanding receivables.
  • Payroll Processing: Assist in semi-monthly or monthly payroll preparation, including collecting timecards and verifying deductions.
  • Financial Recordkeeping: Perform data entry into accounting systems (e.g., Tally, QuickBooks), maintain ledgers, and reconcile bank statements.
  • Reporting & Audits: Prepare basic financial reports and assist with budgeting, forecasting, and gathering documentation for internal/external audits. YWCA Spokane +8

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in AccountingHuman ResourcesBusiness Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Often requires 1–3 years of experience in a similar administrative or clerical role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite (especially Excel) and familiarity with HRIS or accounting software like TallyQuickBooks, or SAP.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational abilities, and the capacity to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion
