Accountant

An automobile dealership accountant manages the financial operations of car dealerships, including daily bookkeeping, inventory tracking, payroll, and monthly financial reporting. Key responsibilities include reconciling accounts payable/receivable, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, managing floor plans, and analyzing departmental profitability (sales, service, parts) to support strategic decision-making. 

Core Responsibilities & Daily/Monthly Tasks

• Financial Reporting & Bookkeeping: Prepare accurate monthly financial statements (Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss) and maintain the general ledger.
• Inventory & Vehicle Management: Track inventory costs, monitor floor plans, and record new/used car sales.
• Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage invoices, vendor payments, and customer payments efficiently.
• Payroll & Commissions: Calculate and process weekly or monthly payroll, including complex sales staff commissions.
• Reconciliation & Audit: Reconcile bank statements, finance reserves, and floor plan accounts.
• Compliance & Tax: Ensure compliance with financial regulations, manage tax preparation (sales tax, VAT), and handle audit documentation.
• Departmental Analysis: Review repair orders for proper costing and warranty information.
